If you are looking for a relaxed family holiday, then head off to Kotu. Located to the north of Gambia’s stretch of ocean-side resorts, it is an ideal beach holiday destination. Flights from UK take less than six hours to reach Kotu Beach, which is just 20 kilometres away from Yundum International Airport. The beach boosts several African style hotels, spread out along the sandy beach. You can find each hotel in this island surrounded by tropical gardens and swimming pools. Toward the east of the beach, you can find the wetlands of Kotu Creek that attracts several exotic birds.
There are several interesting things that you can do in Kotu. Here you will find interesting craft market, mini supermarket, different restaurants and a number of friendly beach-side bars. You can dine on the beach, enjoy African delights, windsurfing and body boarding at the beach. The Abuko Nature Reserve is another famous destination known for its crocodiles.
Kotu has a sub-topical climate. Weather is hot throughout the year with lots of sunshine. There are very little differences in the temperature from one month to another month. However, the best time to visit the Kotu is November to May, when the season is dry. Rainy season starts from July and continues until October. August is the wettest month and temperature is hot and humid. Overall, Kotu is an ideal place to visit during the UK winter months.
