Council Curtails On Bus Services in Bristol

Bus services and the ferry service for Bank holidays will lose their grants along with increment in park and ride fares. The final decisions of the transport budget will be carried during the cabinet meeting. In November 2010, undertaking to run 60 subsidized services was taken. The adverted council will also stop subsidizing some of the evening bus services. Through this, buses will run after every hour rather than running after every half an hour. If the school agrees to share the cost with the council, the council could allow the yellow school bus in Henbury to run as per their time and schedules.

Negotiations are proceeding on whether night buses will still be subsidized or not. Curtail in amounts will total to £2m and this will be made to the transport budget in Bristol. Tim Kent, in charge of transport, said that the tendering procedure had shown some itineraries would become more overpriced to subsidize. Some of the paths have incremented more as compared to others with an average costing 20-25%. Mark Bradshaw, Labor’s transport spokesperson, said that his party members want to work to economize services.
